The Online Experience
Almost everything Spirit is Calling does is available online!
Spirit is Calling uses zoom and skype depending on what we are doing, and how many people are involved.
Zoom - This is our standard classroom. The system requires no software and runs on a standard browser by accessing a URL distributed at the beginning of the class or event. It allows audio and video streaming as well as session breakout rooms and recordings. Recordings can be downloaded by an administrator or watched online by anyone in realtime audio/video streaming for two weeks after the class. The system is fairly easy to use, and most users get the hang of it after their first class.
Skype - Skype is a common Voice over IP service which allows audio calls, conferencing, and instant messaging via the internet. Skype also allows group video, but we do not use this feature at this time. Skype is used primarily for one-on-one sessions or meetings and as a primary backup to zoom. Skype does require software downloads and user registration. User ID's must be stored and coordinated like telephone numbers. Skype applications are available for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android. The Skype software and Skype to Skype calls are free including one-on-one video calls. Skype to telephone calls and group video calls involve a cost.

- A computer or compatible device running Skype software. Download Skype HERE.
- A headset with microphone. A webcam is optional.
- Notify the teacher or leader of your Skype ID
- If you don't need or want a computer, you can attend Skype meetings via telephone (see below)*
Two Easy Steps:
- Notify the teacher or leader of your Skype ID well before the class or event begins.
- Wait for the teacher or leader to call you on Skype at event time.
Next:
- Be prepared and know how to put the class "on hold" as you 'Skype' a classmate for a breakout session. The teacher will review this at the beginning of the class.
- Practice muting and un-muting your microphone and sending chat messages.
*Attending a Skype meeting via telephone:
- You must pre-arrange with Spirit is Calling to join via telephone. The cost to join via telephone is $5 per class session. If you choose to take every class or meeting via telephone, simply multiply the number of classes x 5 to arrive at the telephony surcharge. This is the approximate cost of a 150 minute call made via Skype passed on to you allowing for variables such as international location and mobile versus landline.
- You must agree that to participate in a breakout session, you will have to telephone your partner(s) and are solely responsible for any costs incurred in doing so.
